Training as a Bridge House Tutor

This training course is available to anyone who registers with Bridge House as a language tutor. When we provide clients with lists of tutors, we mention whether they have completed this training or not.

You may work through the training at your own pace. Each unit is delivered to you via email. You are asked to work through each section of the unit and then give a short response. We generally react to your response within 48 hours.

The training covers:

Acting as a consultant for your learner – finding exactly the right sort of course for them.

Encouraging good organisational habits in your learner.

Encouraging good learning habits in your student in each of the skill areas – listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Introducing your student to working with native speakers, and how you can help them to get the most out of this.

Working on-line and off-line with your learners.

Working on the phone with your learners.

Keeping your learners motivated.

Assessing your students.

Running yourself as a business.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to take the Bridge House Training Course in order to be registered with Bridge House Languages?

No, you can register with us for just £5.00. This covers the cost of us chasing references and putting you on the data base. Then, when a client requires a tutor, we forward your details to them – name, languages taught and which levels, first part of your post code, your email address (or your phone number if you don’t have email).

I don’t have email. Can I still be trained?

Yes, we can post a hard copy of the training documents to you and you can post your responses in a letter. If you have a computer, but you’re not connected to the internet, you might like to receive your training modules on a floppy disk – so that you can customise the worksheets you are given to suit your own and your client’s needs.

I have been teaching languages for over twenty years. Do I really need another training course?

Probably not, for what you’re doing now, and we’re sure you do that very well, as no doubt your referees would say. However, we take a slightly unconventional approach to language learning at Bridge House. Many of our customers come to us because they have read The Complete Guide to Learning a Language. This outlines the same approach as the training provides.
